Charles Rim is a Venture Partner at Draper Athena.  He specializes in the area of consumer and B2B software companies in Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.  Previously, Charles was the Managing Director of Korea and Southeast Asia at Tapjoy, a leading mobile advertising and monetization platform.  Under his leadership, Tapjoy has established itself as the leader in mobile incentivized ad platforms in Korea and the APAC region.

Prior to Draper Athena and Tapjoy, Charles had been immersed in the expansion of the internet in the APAC region.  He was Head of M&A APAC for Google, and led all deals by Google in the APAC region (ex-China) from 2006 to 2011.  Previously, he was a Director of Strategy and Corporate Development at Yahoo Korea.  He was also previously the CFO of Korea Thrunet, Korea's first broadband network and enterprise solution provider.

Prior to his corporate finance career, Charles was an investment banker (Credit Agricole Group, CISA) in the APAC region, mainly transacting in M&A, IPOs, and equity markets funding.  Charles started his career as a lawyer in Connecticut and NY prior to commencing his international business practice in Seoul, Korea, where he was lead negotiator on a number of significant projects, including Korea Fund, KORAIL TGV, KoreaSAT, GE Nuclear Turbines, and LG Goldstar CB.

Charles graduated with a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983, and received his J.D. from the Emory University School of Law in 1986. He enjoys the great outdoors and has a particular passion for angling... in all waters.
